A dry coconut, also known as a mature coconut or copra, is the fully ripened fruit of the coconut tree (Cocos nucifera). Unlike the young, green coconut, which is prized for its refreshing water, a dry coconut has a hard, woody shell and contains dried, firm, and fibrous flesh, commonly referred to as copra. The shell is brown and rough, with three “eyes” (small, circular indentations) on one end. Inside the shell, the white meat is firm, dry, and sometimes shredded. It’s often used in cooking, baking, and for making coconut oil. Unlike the young coconut, dry coconuts contain very little or no water. The outer husk of the coconut can be used for making coir, a natural fiber used in mats, ropes, and other products. Dry coconuts are an important part of many tropical and subtropical regions, providing a wide range of products from food to fibers.
